The Challenge

A friend of mine recently asks me about training and diet as he has signed onto a weight loss challenge. Since I have been through the bulk up, drop weight, contest diet and training diet, pigging out, stop eating, over training, you name it… I have been there. After all, I was and still am my best guinea pig when it comes to training and diet.  So I could definitely relate to his concerns and frustrations on how to proceed with this unattainable weight loss challenge.  He had a mish mash plan set up from talking to various amateurs and reading books, a concoction that could possibly work, I think, but maybe not  in the most effective and efficient manner.  So I gave him some suggestions:

  • Take a good look at your own body in the mirror, take some pictures in exercise wear, be honest, but be kind.
  • Make an assessment, what do I need to improve, what can be improved in a given time frame? Be realistic, be kind.
  • Write down some attainable goals with a time table that will work with your life style, we all have lives. Remember, we are not movie stars being paid to lose weight and shape up for a movie in 2 months, so have kinder expectations.
  • Meet with an experience professional and discuss your workout plan, find someone that truly understands what it means and feels to go through what you will have to go through and that he/she can teach you how to do it.  Good athletes do not necessary mean they are great teachers, to teach effectively is a gift and an art. Make sure you are working towards your realistic goals, not theirs.
  • Follow the plan with discipline, diligence and find some fun with it. You will be so happy with the results once you get over the first 2 weeks, everything gets easier after that; including the sore muscles from training and the yearning for that bag of Doritos or double scoop chocolate fudge sundae, or the 800 calories “protein” smoothies.
  • Get a bonus by wearing MBTs wherever you go, you will be exercising even when your plan did not say so.
  • Give yourself a big hug when you look at yourself in the mirror again, a month later. You are on your way to that goal.

Enjoying Florida in MBTs

This is my favorite time of the year in Florida. The temperature ranges from 60 to 80 degrees and sunny days are abundant. Azaleas bloom everywhere in pink and white colors…..but only for a couple of months. These are the best walking days and I am grateful for each and every one. I notice too, that more people seem to be smiling. I think we sleep better with our windows open. We are more comfortable, but mostly because we are meant to be outside enjoying all that nature offers. There is something about being alive that draws us to the outdoors. It positively affects our body and mind. Being outside is invigorating. I even think of the alligators and turtles who creep out from their water homes and bask in the sunshine on the shoreline. My pup loves his two hour ritual lying outside on our porch step in the mornings. In the cooler weather, he is much more playful and energized.

This past weekend, I worked in one of the most beautiful little towns in the country……Mt. Dora, Florida. It was an outdoor arts and crafts festival and even though we worked from dawn to dusk, I was having fun introducing people to MBT. We walked, we strolled, and even danced. It was a beautiful weekend. We were able to introduce more people to MBT who will now be taking to the streets more often and longer than ever before because they feel better. All day long, people were commenting on the relief the MBTs gave them from nagging discomfort in their heels, backs, knees and/or hips.

It’s an even better life in MBT’s!

World Human Spirit Day

Tuesday 2/17/09 at noon Pacific Time, celebrate World Human Spirit Day with me. Join people from around the world by sitting in silent meditation for 2 minutes. Use that time to connect with other humans who share a common goal of global unity. See http://www.omsakthi.org/news/2003/030202.html for more info.

I usually meditate alone, and on the occasions I have had the chance to do a group meditation I have felt a powerful energy. I do not fully understand how it really works, but I do feel that our thoughts are things. When a group of people generate a similar thought, the collective effort can create incredible changes. While I don’t fully buy into the concepts from “The Secret” and the “Law of Attraction” that what we say, think and feel will create a certain outcome as surely as the Law of Gravity will cause and object to fall, I do feel we can steer our lives with our brains. So if you at all feel the same, send out some positive vibes next Tuesday and let’s create a great world to live in :)

May you be EnRiched,
